Nature

Mmmm, yummy orange mushy fungus, my favorite.

FroMo takes a nip from a pepperoni roll found on a dead tree.

 Found lunch...

...and had these for breakfast. Provided by the spring house about 10 yds. from the front porch.

Either the slug is eating the centipede or the slug stole his lunch.

My favorite creature to find in the forest growing up. The Red Eft. Shown here in it's juvenile stage. As an adult she'll be a water-dweller.Thanks again, wikipedia.

 Jack-in-the-pulpit.

Don't know my mushrooms that well...

"All right, we'll call it a draw!"

Go outside sooner rather than later.

Events

It's a sunny day and Ultimate Frisbee is happening again. Tuesdays at 5:30...DTEMS field in Thomas. Yaaahoooo!

Another great thing that happens only once a year is going down at Backbone Food Farm in Gortner, MD. Shiitak Inoc! Or the 8th Annual Shiitake Log Inoculation Weekend. Scrumptious grub and excellent people make it all fly by...come out, it's fun!!!

Welcome...

...to the garden of earthly delights! Garden is delight!

Been on XTC mode for some time. Blackburn turned me on to their first album. Still like the original Nigel better than the Primus version.

Dang, you can get an even slower version from Nouvelle Vague. She drops the "OHWOO"....kind of a bummer.

Switch Gears

80 degrees in Thomas, WV, today. Summer weather in a spring that will still be peppered with wet wintery flashbacks. The moon grows and so do the abundant grazing animals. Saw a black bear on my road at about 7:45 pm. Stared at each other a bit, then parted. Hawks, geese, ducks, grouse, vultures, crows...they can be omens. Little reminders that survival is always happening. Comfort is dangerous. Stay sharp.

Speaking of sharp, this puppy is on it!

Lead Mine was socked in this morning. Cold, foggy and wet. A climb out revealed a toasty warm upper crust. Usually the other way around...but things are a bit turbulent these days.
